Four Bandcamp Friday recommendations
and a photograph of PJ Harvey
Hello! It’s Bandcamp Friday so I thought I’d share with you some releases that I am enjoying today, in case you’re after something new to listen to…
Get The Blessing have a brand new single and video out today - “Dude indigo” from their soon to be released album Pallett.
I really love this one and the video is very satisfying to me. Pete (GTB trumpet player who has lent his shiny horn to numerous Thought Forms and Silver Stairs of Ketchikan songs) came across this installation by Somerset based eco-artist Zac Greening and it was the perfect visual companion for the music…
Gazelle Twin released “Fear Keeps Us Alive” this week from the forthcoming “Black Dog”….
The video for this is well worth a watch, I felt it in quite an emotional way listening to the lyrics at the same time - the whole album is centred around themes of fear, stemming from childhood and following us into our adult lives and :
“The fear in ‘Fear Keeps Us Alive’, says Gazelle Twin aka Elizabeth Bernholz, is a “daily, constant, almost mundane common fear among women. I have often connected this lifelong feeling to the sense of a ghostly male presence that lurks in my dreams. Women are (and always have been) constantly haunted by the potential of being harmed.”
Something we can unfortunately all relate to I think.
This isn’t new but I just love it so much that I have to share it every so often - ELDR is Marina Elderton is one of my favourite musicians (and creators of captivating visual worlds through sound and words and imagery) ever.
Penfriend (aka my good friend Laura) performed an online gig last week and the recording of the set is available for 10 days only, free/pwyw on Bandcamp :
I’m always so impressed her ability to knock out a killer performance on camera in front of a live audience! I’d be absolutely shitting myself.
I was lucky enough to see PJ Harvey play live this week up in Manchester, it was absolutely stunning…
